I Went Down is a brooding affair penned by our guitarist and producer Damian Cafarella. Lyrically, it's a return to storytelling: the paranoid narrator has a terrible secret, and he seems almost ready to tell us - but instead he relays his message via a series of coded references to songwriting luminaries such as Joni Mitchell, Charlie Louvin, Johnny Cash and Neil Young. Meanwhile the band thumps and hisses its way through a musical swamp, with call-and-response guitars and wailing church organs and all sorts of unidentified percussion. All in all it’s a murky, dirty, sinful good time. It's out now!
